It was physicist Tim Berners_ Lee who was a contractor at CERN proposed and prototype Html to share documents over internet.The idea behind the development of html was to provide facilities to the researchers to use prior data and to share data over the internet.

Berners_Lee specified HTML and wrote the browser and server software in the late 1990. first publicly available description of HTML was a document called HTML tag. It describes 20 elements comprising the initial relative simple design of HTML .In its earlier incarnation

HTML was a formatting language. its entire responsibility was simply to manage the basic formatting of hypertext documents. Format controls were limited to items such as headers and paragraphs and limited text formatting such as bold and italic. since 1996 the HTML specifications have been maintained ,with input from commercial software vendors , by the world wide web consortium.

Different Version of HTML

HTML 1.0: It was first release of HTML. there were not much to do with it. only simple text was put on the website.

HTML 2.0: It was improved version of HTML with the original specifications and with some new features.this version defined various core features of HTML. this version of HTML was came in use from 1995. this version was used to represent news ,mail documentation and hypermedia, menus of options, quarry of database simple structured documents with in lined graphics, and hypertext views of existing bodies of information.

HTML3.2: This version was published in January 1997 .this was the firs version which fulfills the specifications of W3C.this version was developed as per the rules of W3C.maths formulas were completely removed from this version .they came in use after some modifications in the later version which came on use after 14 months of this version.

HTML4.0: This was recommended by W3C in late 1997 but it became official in April 1998. this version adopted various browser specific element types and attributes. this version was revised and it became HTML4.01 it supporting presenting language CSS as new improved feature. HTML4.01is the final version of specification
