NEF stands for Nikon Electronic Format. Photos with this file extension are captured using Nikon cameras. NEF files are RAW files and in order to open raw files in Photoshop we need to have the Camera RAW plug-in already installed. With the help of Camera RAW we can easily open RAW files in Photoshop.
To open NEF files in Photoshop, we need to open it by converting it to a certain format. The most suggested one is the DNG format which still keeps it a RAW file and is more universal.
To open it in a Photoshop, two things are required i.e. Camera Raw Update installed and DNG converter program.
First using the DNG converter program we need to convert the NEF files in the desired file format and also we need to set the ACR version in order to make it compatible with our version of Photoshop. After successfully converting it, we can easily open it in Photoshop directly.
Though both CS 3 as well as CS2 runs well. But it is noticed that startup speed is much more on MAC systems when compared to the same on the windows system. So, yes we can conclude that Photoshop CS3 is better on intel mac than CS2 because of high speed.
* Press Clt+ O or Command + O to open up an image which you want to edit.

A clipping mask is created in Photoshop when you use the content of one layer to mask the layers above it. You are basically clipping around the artwork to fit the shape of the object on the layer.
Photoshop is a raster based software because it works on bitmap images. Bitmaps are made of millions of tiny squares called pixels. We can easily identify a raster of bitmap images by zooming in the image. Raster images are acceptable for digital publication but it does not perform well in printed objects. Images are saved at a high DPI so that it does not reduce quality during the printing process.
Vector images are made of thin lines and curves known as paths. Vector images use mathematical calculations. No matter how much we zoom in or zoom out our image, vector images always appear smooth and seem clear. It has also had some vector tools like pen tool for drawing paths, text tools, and shape tools.
There are three parameters to change the size of the image:
* Type of the image
* Size of the pixels
* The Background resolution
While using “Sync” function you must not check the check box for “Brush” option in synchronize settings, as it may distort the image appearance. Even if the image is almost similar never check mark to this option.
Once you have edited the image and you want the same changes in other images as well you can use the function “Sync” at the bottom of the develop panel.
To mirror an image in Photoshop we need to know the mirror/anchor point that is from where we want to mirror that image and then we will follow these steps –
🡪 Open the image which we want to mirror.
🡪 First make a duplicate of the image so that we don’t make changes to the original image.
🡪 After that select Layer > Duplicate Layer. Name the new layer as “mirror” and click OK.
🡪 Select the Mirror layer select the Edit > Transform > Flip Horizontal.
🡪 Then, Click on Image> Canvas Size option. From the Width dropdown menu choose Percent option.

This will set the anchor point for our image size change to the top right side of our image and which will mirror it using this anchor/mirror point.🡪Select the Mirror layer, hold the Shift key on the keyboard and click on the Background layer to select both layers, then in the top menu click on the Align Left Edges icon on the menu. The image will be mirrored.
With the use of filter options you can sort and search various options like
* File type ( JPG, DNG, RAW etc.)
* Lens Model
* Camera Model
* Lens focal length
* Aperture, ISO
* Flash state
* Flag status
* Virtual copies and many more

>> Click the general tab
>> Look for the back-up section
>> Look for the back-up catalog menu and select every time lightroom exits
On the top right hand corner of the library there you can see a histogram. This histogram gives you a fair idea about your image appearance whether it is blown out or suave.
Content Aware in Photoshop is used to remove the unwanted objects from the image and fill it according to the surrounding area. This is quite helpful in taking the best out of the images. This tool is really effective in Photoshop and steps to use it are as follows –
🡪 Take any selection tool, lasso tool or marquee tool, and select the area where we want to use the content aware.
🡪 Then, go to the Edit menu and select the Fill option. A dialog box will appear.
🡪 Select the Content Aware Fill option and click OK.
🡪 You’ll see that the selected area is filled with the surrounding, removing the previous object.
We can also use the keyboard shortcut to do that –
🡪 Select the area of the image with any tool.
🡪 Then press Shift + delete key and dialog box appears.🡪 Select the Content Aware Fill option and click OK.
We can easily email our photos from our lightroom without any delay. Either we can use the menu options to mail the image or we can also use the keyboard shortcuts to mail the photo.
Using menu options, we can directly go to the File menu and there we can select the Email option and follow the further steps for mailing the image.
The Keyboard shortcut to mail the image is written below –
For MacOS, we use the Cmd + shift + M command to mail the image.
For Windows, we use CTRL+ SHIFT + M command to mail the image.
Flipping a layer helps in positioning of the image in our desired way. Sometimes we want to make one composite image out of many images and in order to get the relevant final image we may require to flip the image and which is done in following way –
🡪 Select the layer which you want to flip. Unlock the layer if it is already locked by clicking on the padlock icon on it.

In order to open raw files in Photoshop we need to have the Camera RAW plug-in already installed. With the help of Camera RAW we can easily open RAW files in Photoshop.
Files like NEF and CR2 files which are clicked through new cameras and are not supported by Photoshop are first converted into Photoshop supported file type, Probably DNG by using Adobe DNG converter.
Also, under the Preferences of file handling, we need to make changes to prefer the RAW files. In the Edit/ Photoshop menu, select the Preferences tab, under which select the File Handling. Then check Prefer Adobe Camera RAW for supported RAW files. The raw files which are supported by Photoshop will be allowed to open. Whenever we open the raw file by clicking on it, it will automatically open in Photoshop without any error.
As the blown-out colors are those whose number exceeds 240 and there is always a task if we need the colors, we need to fix them in our lightroom.
To fix the blown-out colors in the lightroom, we need to use an alternation adjustment option to get our work done. So, we need to go to local adjustment brush option in lightroom and where we can adjust our color.
One thing that we can do is to reduce the effect of color i.e. if the color value of any of the parameters in RGB is greater than 240 it is going to be blown out and a lot of saturation is present due to which no detail can be seen in the image. So, we adjust it to bring it lower than 240 and hence can fix the blown-out color or we can balance the effect of color by increasing the proportion of the opposite color.
The colors are represented by the combination of red, blue and green factors, which is a number ranging from 0 to 255 for all three parameters. This model of choosing a color is known as the RGB model (0 being the no color and 255 being the pure color).
Blown out means the maximum value of all the three-color channels. For RGB, that means maximum red, maximum green and maximum blue. This appears to be pure white, even if the color of the subject is not white or a shade of grey. So, any color whose number exceeds 240 is considered to be a blown out color.
File name templates can be used whenever you choose to rename files.
File name template is important in light room because with the file name template you can save lot of information about the image like meta-data of that image, equipment, date, equipment etc. Apart from that, you can also include a custom text field.
Smart collection in light room is useful in
>> Finding specific file types
>> Smart collections to mark best images and can set up additional criteria
>.> Smart collections for Aspect Ratio- which means you can see your image in different formats like landscape, portrait and square
To e-mail photos directly from the lightroom short cut is
Press: Command+Shift+M(MAC) / Control+shift+M ( displays the options to e-mail photos in lightroom)

To fix the blown out colors in light room, you have to go to local adjustment brush option in lightroom and you can adjust your color. Either you can reduce the effect of color or either you can balance the effect of color by increasing the proportion of the opposite color.
Any colour whose number exceeds 240 in light room is considered as blown out color.
In order to give an HDR effect to photo in light room,
<> You have to open the develop module of Lightroom
<> First step is to choose tone base
<> The tone base will hightlight various settings like shadows, whites and blacks, constrast, clarity, saturation etc. It will set the foundation for the faux HDR effect

Grainy matte effect in lightroom is helpful in recreating an old film look which adds matte with a touch of grain in it. With the combinations of different values of different parameters we can achieve any matte effect in lightroom. To create a Grainy matte effect in lightroom, you have to
🡪Go to “basic” section of the develop module.
🡪Make changes like shadows, clarity or saturation if it requires.
🡪Now go to the “split toning” section in the develop module and make the adjustment to Hue, saturation, balance, highlight etc.🡪And at the last we have to add grain, you can adjust the option like Amount, Size and Roughness.
You can use Auto-blend layers command to combine images. Auto-blend layers uses layer masks as needed to mask-out over underexposed areas.
Importing photographs in a lightroom helps us to edit the photographs as per our need and one should know how this actually works. In case of importing from hard-drives we need to follow these steps –
🡪First select the source to import images file from.
🡪Second step includes selecting files which one you want to import.
🡪Once you select the files, you have to specify the method of import. Methods of import can be Copy as DNG, Copy, Move, Add etc.🡪The last step is to choose the destination to copy files to, file handling options and meta-data setting. This step is little longer than other steps as it includes other steps like file handling, file renaming, apply during import etc.
Go to the local adjustment brush option available in the Lightroom and adjust the color.
The effect of the color can either be reduced or balanced by increasing the proportion of the opposite color.
Red eye tool is used to fix the red eye look in the photographs. The problem of red eye arises when we capture a photograph and the light entering through the pupil of the subject is reflected back by the person’s blood vessels giving it a demon’s look.
Photoshop is equipped enough to directly change the red color to black and helps to get rid of red-eye problems. The red-eye tool works on the principle that whenever it is used over the red portion (generally the red eyes), it turns it into a black one, giving it a real look and solving the problem. We can make a rectangular portion on the red-eye and use the tool or directly click on the red color, both of these options will change the red into black color. Sometimes, we need to use a combination of both methods to get rid of the red-eye problem.
A path in Photoshop is a collection of disconnected lines and areas that can describe the image.
3D appearance in a Photoshop is all about using the perfect highlight and shadow combination to make the image realistic in view. There are effective ways in Photoshop using layers to achieve the 3D appearance of the image.
We can achieve that 3D effect on the sphere using the spin option in Photoshop. Follow the steps to achieve the 3D effect on the sphere: –
🡪 Select Blur option from Filter menu item. Then click on radial blue.
🡪 Select spin option in the Blur method section. There you’ll get the slider to adjust the spin. Increase or decrease the spin by dragging the slider.
🡪 Ensure the value of blurring within the range of 1 to 100.
In this way we can give a 3D look to the sphere using Spin.
Lasso tools are used to make a selection of an image that might not be perfectly circular or rectangular. Lasso tools are used when you want to make a selection freehand and are not confident in using the Pen tool. Lasso tools are of three different types: the Standard Lasso, Polygonal and Magnetic. They all are used to make image selections but have some varying properties.
The Standard Lasso tool is used when you want to draw freeform selection in an image. You can make a selection of any shape that is not a standard geometric shape and on which the marquee tools will not be helpful.
The Polygonal Lasso tool is used when you want to draw straight-sided selections. This is very helpful in cases where the shape appears to be rectangular but isn’t.
The Magnetic Lasso tool has the ability to detect edges in your image and then make a selection based on those edges. So when you move your cursor around the edges the outline will automatically be made and when you click at a point, a vertex is introduced there. It of course isn’t 100 percent accurate, especially if the image is not clear and there are a lot of curves and bumps but it’s faster and more reliable than tracing an image freehand!
First, make an animation in Photoshop. This can be done by opening the Window menu from the menu bar and choosing Timeline. Click on Create Frame Animation to create animation frames. Set the animation frames accordingly and you can view the animation by pressing the Spacebar on the keyboard. Make sure to set the animation to loop by choosing the repeat menu from the bottom of the panel and select Forever. This will create a GIF. To export it, go to the “File menu” and select “Export > Save for Web (Legacy)” from the drop-down menu. You can choose the settings (GIF 128 Dithered for Preset, 128 from Colors) or your default settings. You can also change the Width and Height fields in the Image Size options to limit the file size of the GIF file. Select Forever from the Looping options and you can also preview by using the Preview button. Save and choose a destination for your GIF file.
You can change the DPI of an image in Photoshop by going to the Image menu in the menu bar. Here choose Image size from the drop down menu. Uncheck the Resample Image Option because this will upscale the image, which will reduce its quality.
Now in the Resolution bar type in your preferred resolution and set the parameters to Pixels/Inch. When you do this the Width and Height figures will also change. This tells you that the increase in the resolution has resulted in increasing the size of the image as the number of pixels has increased. It also gives you the preview of the image size that you will print.
You can also choose to specify the width and height values but just make sure that while doing so the DPI doesn’t drop too low that it degrades the quality of the image.
It is a curve that is mathematically defined and is used in two-dimensional graphics applications.
They are generally defined by four points that are the initial point, two middle positions, and a terminating point.
