how to create a clone of a Date using collections in java
Previous | Home | Next |
In this example we are going to create the create of a given date.
For using the Date class first of all we have import the java.util package in which the java.util.Date class is defined. In the following example we have created a class named CollectionExample, in which we have created a Date object and then created a clone of that object.
In the following example, for creating the clone of the Date, we have used the clone() method whose general syntax is given as,
Object clone()
This method creates and returns a copy of the currrent Date object.
In this example we have created a Date object named todaysdate by using the default constructor of the Date class. We have also created an Object object named objdate which stores the clone returned by invoking the clone() method on the todaysdate as,
Object objdate=todaysdate.clone();
Finally, we have displayed the cloneddate by typecasting the objdate to Date.
package r4r.co.in;
import java.util.*;
public class CollectionExample
{
/**
* @param args
*/
public static void main(String args[])
{
Date todaysdate=new Date(); // creating an object of Date class
System.out.println("Todays time is given by: "+todaysdate); // displaying the todays date
Object objdate=todaysdate.clone(); // storing the todaysdate clone to the Object objdate
Date cloneddate=(Date)objdate; // typecasting the objdate to Date cloneddate
System.out.println("The cloned Date is given by: "+cloneddate); // displaying the cloned date
}
}
The output of the above given example is given by:
Todays time is given by: Tue Nov 16 12:13:02 PST 2010
The cloned Date is given by: Tue Nov 16 12:13:02 PST 2010
