how to use Gregorian Calendar class using collections in java
Previous | Home | Next |
In this example we shall see how to use the Gregorian Calendar class.
For using the GregorianCalendar class, first of all we have to import the java.util package in which the java.util.GregorianCalendar class is defined.
In this example we have created the GregorianCalendar object by using the following constructors,
GregorianCalendar(TimeZone timezone)
This constructor constructs a GregorianCalendar that is based on the current time in the given time zone with the default locale.
GregorianCalendar(int year, int month, int day, int hour, int minute)
This constructor constructs a GregorianCalendarwith the given date and time set for the default time zone with the default locale.
In this example we have created a class named CollectionsExample in which we have created two object of the GregorianCalendar class and displayed their various fields.
package r4r.co.in;
import java.util.*;
public class CollectionsExample {
/**
* @param args
*/
public static void main(String[] args) throws IllegalArgumentException
{
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
try
{
TimeZone timezone = TimeZone.getTimeZone("Asia/Calcutta"); // here we are creating a TimeZone of Asia/Calcutta ie of India
Calendar clndr = new GregorianCalendar(timezone); // here we are creating a calendar with the defined timezone
clndr.setTime(new Date()); // we have set time of present day
System.out.println("This gives the current time:->"+clndr.getTime()); // here we are getting the time
int day_month=clndr.get(Calendar.DAY_OF_MONTH); // getting the day of the month
System.out.println("The day of the present month is: "+day_month);
int week_month=clndr.get(Calendar.WEEK_OF_MONTH); // getting the week of the month
System.out.println("The current week of month is: "+week_month);
int week_year=clndr.get(Calendar.WEEK_OF_YEAR); // getting the week of the year
System.out.println("This gives the week of the year as: "+week_year);
int day_year=clndr.get(Calendar.DAY_OF_YEAR); // getting the day of the year
System.out.println("This gives the day of the year : "+day_year);
System.out.println("The timezone of the clndr is: "+clndr.getTimeZone()); // getting the time zone
GregorianCalendar gcal=new GregorianCalendar(2007, 7, 2, 16, 47, 7); // here we have created another GregorianCalendar object having some past date
System.out.println(gcal.getTime()); // getting the time
if(gcal.compareTo(clndr)>0) // here we are comparing the dates of the two calendars created
{
System.out.println("Welcome to the year: "+gcal.get(Calendar.YEAR));
}
else
{
System.out.println("Welcome to the year: "+clndr.get(Calendar.YEAR));
}
}
catch(IllegalArgumentException e)
{
e.printStackTrace();
}
}
}
This gives the current time:->Wed Nov 17 17:42:48 PST 2010
The day of the present month is: 18
The current week of month is: 3
This gives the week of the year as: 47
This gives the day of the year : 322
The timezone of the clndr is: sun.util.calendar.ZoneInfo[id="Asia/Calcutta",offset=19800000,dstSavings=0,useDaylight=false,transitions=6,lastRule=null]
Thu Aug 02 16:47:07 PDT 2007
Welcome to the year: 2010
